From the roots to the blossoming fruit\, and from press to product\, we’ll share our passion for this time-honoured tradition. And\, to top it off\, you’ll get to sample our ciders and enjoy a tasty ploughman’s lunch\, all while surrounded by the beautiful Cranborne Chase National Landscape. \nWe are offering 2 sessions for this tour:\nSat 26th April 2025 at 11am\nSun 27th April 2025 at 11am \nThe tour kicks off with a 1-mile guided walk\, suitable for all ages\, around the heart of our cider-making activities at the farm. Bill will take you through the orchard\, which has been newly planted and carefully nurtured\, just behind the cider mill. He’ll discuss different apple varieties and orchard management techniques (and we bet you won’t be able to name all the apple types native to the UK!). \nNext\, we’ll head to the cider mill\, where Bill will explain how he creates our range of ciders and apple juices. Ever wondered if we press cider year-round? You’ll find out during this part of the tour! \nTo wrap up the experience\, join us in our newly built ‘tasting room\,’ where you’ll sample a variety of ciders (and/or apple juices) and enjoy a delicious cheese ploughman’s lunch prepared by the lovely Mrs. M (more details below). \nOur Cranborne Chase Cider shop will be open all day for any additional purchases\, and our team will be on hand to assist with any questions during your visit. \nPlease remember that\, as the event involves both indoor and outdoor activities at a farm\, it’s important to dress for the weather. DESCRIPTION:Dowding’s will be opening their organic orchards at Apple HQ in Shepton Montague for the weekend to enable people to come and see the beauty of 1\,500 blossoming apple trees\, and the bluebells in the adjoining woods and hedgerows. \nOpening times will be from 10 to 8 on both Saturday and Sunday\, 26-27th April. \nYou will have lovely hot food to enjoy along with some other people with stalls for their produce and crafts etc. There will be a fully stocked cider and apple juice bar! You will also be welcome to bring a picnic. \nPitcombe Rock Falconry (who are a local charity) will be in attendance (weather permitting) during both days\, with a range of birds of prey. They have provided Dowding’s with owl boxes which are important for pest control in our organic orchards. They will talk about their work in rescue and rehabilitation of birds of prey.  A small donation is appreciated as a fundraiser for their work. \nThere should be some music during both days. At the end of each day there will be a bonfire to gather around. \nWe welcome children.  Dogs are welcome too\, but need to be on leads. \nThere are toilet facilities. DESCRIPTION:Dowding’s will be opening their organic orchards at Apple HQ in Shepton Montague for the weekend to enable people to come and see the beauty of 1\,500 blossoming apple trees\, and the bluebells in the adjoining woods and hedgerows. \nOpening times will be from 10 to 8 on both Saturday and Sunday\, 26-27th April. \nYou will have lovely hot food to enjoy along with some other people with stalls for their produce and crafts etc. There will be a fully stocked cider and apple juice bar! You will also be welcome to bring a picnic. \nPitcombe Rock Falconry (who are a local charity) will be in attendance (weather permitting) during both days\, with a range of birds of prey. They have provided Dowding’s with owl boxes which are important for pest control in our organic orchards. They will talk about their work in rescue and rehabilitation of birds of prey.  A small donation is appreciated as a fundraiser for their work. \nThere should be some music during both days. At the end of each day there will be a bonfire to gather around. \nWe welcome children.  Dogs are welcome too\, but need to be on leads. \nThere are toilet facilities. DESCRIPTION:Following the sell-out success of last year’s event we are once again opening up the cellar of The Cider Works to the intrepid as part of our British Cider week celebrations. \nIf you’ve been on one of our tours before then think again as this is next level access\, where you will get to taste juice from rare and unknown apple varieties and small batch ciders that may never see the light of day. You’ll discover the flavours of ciders as they mature and find out what the cider makers are looking for when they are creating new cider blends. \nThe intimate tour will be followed by cheese and charcuterie platters\, giving you a chance to sit and talk with Barny Butterfield and the cider makers to pick their brains further on all things cider. \nThere are only a very limited number of tickets available for this specialist tour so book early to avoid disappointment.
