Dowding’s will be celebrating the visible beginning of a new season with the arrival of blossom in our organic orchards. The farm has been certified organic for over 35 years. We are in SE Somerset between Bruton, Wincanton and Castle Cary.
There will be plenty of road signs to guide you to get to us and parking will be on site. For those with limited mobility this can be arranged so that it is close to the front.
Entry free / Donation of £1/head to the Pitcombe Rock Falconry.
This will be a day for all the family to enjoy strolling amongst 1,500 apple trees of all ages from 1 to 32 years old. Most are dessert or culinary varieties but the older ones are mostly cider varieties. Visitors will be welcome to wander amongst the blossoming trees, and the neighbouring wood filled with bluebells. Dogs are welcome but we do ask that they are on a leash whilst you are with us.
There will be a display of birds of prey, large and small, weather permitting, from the nearby Pitcombe Rock Falconry where they rescue injured birds of prey and those discarded, nurturing them back to full health. They are a charity, and the only cost to your entrance will be a donation to them in lieu of an entrance fee.
There will be an opportunity to enjoy eating good food from a local business from c. 11.30 to 5, with something simpler later in the day. Naturally, you will also have the full array of Dowding’s award-winning drinks to enjoy all day, and also to take home.
Please contact us for anything you may need to know, via info@dowdings.co.uk or ringing 01749812652 or Oliver on 07966456244.
Dowding’s will be opening their organic orchards at Apple HQ in Shepton Montague for the weekend to enable people to come and see the beauty of 1,500 blossoming apple trees, and the bluebells in the adjoining woods and hedgerows.
Opening times will be from 10 to 8 on both Saturday and Sunday, 26-27th April.
You will have lovely hot food to enjoy along with some other people with stalls for their produce and crafts etc. There will be a fully stocked cider and apple juice bar! You will also be welcome to bring a picnic.
Pitcombe Rock Falconry (who are a local charity) will be in attendance (weather permitting) during both days, with a range of birds of prey. They have provided Dowding’s with owl boxes which are important for pest control in our organic orchards. They will talk about their work in rescue and rehabilitation of birds of prey. A small donation is appreciated as a fundraiser for their work.
There should be some music during both days. At the end of each day there will be a bonfire to gather around.
We welcome children. Dogs are welcome too, but need to be on leads.
There are toilet facilities. Parking will be on the adjacent field.
